NEW THIS YEAR
In an effort to help homeschool families, CHAP has formulated several tracks in the workshop schedule which focus on special areas:
The Getting Started Track is especially geared toward new homeschoolers even though some of the topics may be of interest to experienced homeschoolers, too. In this track you will learn about complying with Pennsylvania's homeschool law, keeping lesson plans that help you, learning styles that help your child learn, teaching reading, and homeschooling with toddlers under foot.
The Homeschooling Thru Graduation Track is designed to help homeschool parents right up to the child's graduation. Topics will cover preparing transcripts, courses to prepare for college, advance placement courses, preparing for the marketplace, preparing for the home, what happens after high school, and one homeschool graduate's view of what worked.
For homeschool leaders, there is the yearly Support Group Leaders' Town Hall Meeting where leaders can share ideas. We ask that support group leaders stop at the CHAP booth (#109) to pre-register for this meeting, as light refreshments will be served. New this year, following the town hall meeting, are two workshop sessions geared toward the needs of homeschool leaders: tips and "tipfalls" of leadership and creating a homeschool co-op.
Teen Track: Mission Imperative
This year's Teen Track is packed full of information and is limited to the first 250 who sign up. CHAP listened to your suggestions from last year's convention and we have allotted time for the teens to spend shopping for curriculum and eating with you.
In our society, the most criticized area of the Bible is the first twelve chapters of Genesis. These chapters contain information on the whole
"creation model," which explains far more than just the origins of objects (like planets, trees, animals, etc.). In these chapters we also learn of the "fall of man" and its implications; the catastrophe of the flood and its aftermath; the origins of languages, cultures, and racial groups; and the special covenant between God and Abraham that has specific implications for us today. It is a vitally important part of the Scriptures.
Unfortunately, many teens fall away from the faith when they leave home because of the united, concentrated, and specific attacks upon this area of the Bible that they encounter (especially in secular colleges) which then cause doubts about the rest of God's Word.
These sessions are designed to help teens understand the importance of the issue and help bolster their faith in God's Word through very easy-to-understand concepts. These sessions cover a wide range of topics related to origins and help to answer key questions, such as:
- Does it really matter where I came from?
- Is there scientific evidence for evolution?
- Did man descend from ape-like creatures? If so, what is the evidence?
- Where did the water for a world-wide flood come from and where
did it go?
- Is there "proof" that God created?
- Does the Bible provide answers to the questions about dinosaurs?
- Is the earth billions of years old?
There is a separate line on the registration form for teens registering for the Mission Imperative track due to the additional costs associated with having a teen program. Teens taking part in the Mission Imperative program cannot also register to be volunteers. The Mission Imperative registrants will receive a different color wristband that they will need to wear in order to be admitted to the Mission Imperative program area. The Mission Imperative wristbands will be included with the family's wristbands which will be picked up as you enter the convention. A parent must be registered for the convention and on the premises in order for a teen to register and attend the program.
The Mission Imperative Program is for homeschooled teens ages 12 and up.

The Truth Project
"Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?"
CHAP is excited to facilitate a partnership with Focus on the Family® to equip members to reach their families and communities with Biblical Truth. We are offering a special track for one or two family members for an additional $79 (cost of DVD set and materials), to equip your family to be The Truth Project hosts. Attendance is limited so you must preregister by April 30, to allow enough time for Focus on the Family to mail you the preparatory materials and your special pass to the sessions.
The Truth Project track at the CHAP convention is the training module a person needs to run a Truth Project session in the future. The DVD set is the curriculum one needs to conduct a small group TTP session in the future. It is a Saturday only feature, and it requires attendance at 3 sessions run during the convention: 10:00-10:45 am, 11:00-11:45 am and 3:00-3:45 pm.
The Truth Project curriculum is a systematic and comprehensive Biblical worldview study that looks at all of life. This conference track will equip you to make a Christ-centered difference in our culture by applying God's principles to daily life.
Highlights include:
- Understanding and living the Christian worldview in daily life.
- Knowing the nature and character of God.
- God's design for all of life: work, science, family, government, art, ethics, and more.
- How to thrive in a hostile culture.
- Participants will receive the complete DVD set of twelve lessons. (These professionally produced DVDs are only available by attending Focus on the Family's The Truth Project training or a small group.)
- Access to our password protected, learning support site that features lesson outlines, bonus multimedia content, discussion forums, worldview articles, and more.
For more information about The Truth Project, see an overview of the lessons on this page or visit www.thetruthproject.org.
Remember, new just last year and occuring again this year:
Membership in CHAP
If you choose to join CHAP as a member, several important things happen. The most important is that you will be partnering with other Pennsylvania homeschoolers to advance the cause of homeschooling. You will also receive several financial benefits. The membership fee is $25/yr. This membership fee will give you at least the following benefits:
- One year subscription to the CHAP Magazine, a quarterly publication.
- One year subscription to the CHAP e-Newsletter, our email newsletter.
- $10 discount on your family's admission to the convention.
- $20 discount on the cost of HSLDA membership.
- Other benefits as they become available.
In an effort to reduce costs, there will be no confirmation mailing this year, once again. Rather than name tags, wristbands will be issued at the door to all paid registrants. Those teens who register for the Mission Imperative program will receive a different color wristband which will allow them entrance to the Mission Imperative program room and to the convention rooms.
