Andrew PudewaNurturing Excellent Writers and Speakers - The Power of Linguistic Patterns (Eq Arena)
Many parents think that good readers will naturally become good writers. Others think that writing talent is just that—a natural ability—some have it; others don't. Both are myths. History and modern research show very clearly how good writers have developed. What are the two most critical things you can do as a parent to develop a high level of aptitude, from a young age and into high school? With humor and insight, Andrew will share the two easy but unbelievably powerful things you can do to build language patterns and nurture competent communicators in your family.
Mike SmithRemembering the Reason, Renewing the Vision (Eq Barn)
Join Mike Smith for an overview of the challenges, burdens, and benefits of homeschooling from a veteran homeschool father and leader. Addressing the potential homeschooler, the new homeschooler, the veteran homeschooler and all homeschoolers in between, Michael Smith outlines the success of homeschooling in academics and socialization, describes legal and legislative advances, and concludes that homeschoolers have earned the right to be left alone. For homeschoolers who are losing the vision, he reminds them of the benefits of homeschooling and offers some practical suggestions for relieving the pressure on the homeschooling family, especially Mom. "Thank you for confirming the experience of my public education," writes one parent, "and for convicting us even more of our commitment to bettering the lives of our children."

Bruce EaglesonThe Two Paths - What Fathers And Sons Must Believe. (EH4)
Dr. Eagleson will share with fathers and sons the things that they must know, believe and choose in order to walk the narrow path. No father or son has completed his Biblical education without coming to grips with these facts. Due to the nature of this teaching this session is a "guys only" time.

Don and Darlene CatlettHomeschool Basics: Help for the New Homeschooler (EH3)
The details about affidavits, logs, standardized testing, portfolios and evaluations can seem very daunting. Until the day arrives when we're free of all unnecessary paperwork and legal accountability, we need to find ways we can manage these tasks with the least amount of time, energy and stress while maintaining a positive attitude and a good witness. If you worry over these requirements, this workshop is the place to find some ideas. Bring your questions!
Nada RothgaberHomeschooling "Only One" (EH4)
Friends used to tell Nada that she had it "easy" because she was only homeschooling one child. She found that it wasn't any easier because homeschooling "only one" has a completely different set of challenges than homeschooling a large number. In this session, Nada will highlight various techniques which worked for her when homeschooling "just one." There will also be a Question and Answer time for the audience to ask questions and to glean from the information sharing of the successes of the other audience members who have been blessed with "just one" child or, as their children grow and graduate, find they are down to the last child and it is now a different ball game to cope with teaching just one child.

Hal and Melanie YoungBecoming a Good Steward (Eq Arena)
Setting your sons on the path to financial freedom is more than helping them find a job - it takes thought and hands-on experience at managing money, understanding economics, and making prudent decisions. Here are practical suggestions for how to make that happen.
Michael SmithThe History of Homeschoolers' Struggle to Be Free (Eq Barn)
The relative freedom homeschoolers enjoy today did not always exist. Michael Smith takes his audience back to the early days of the modern homeschool movement and describes the legal situation pioneering homeschoolers faced, the sacrifices they made, and the battles they fought to establish the freedom we know today. His timeline will bring the audience up to the current struggles homeschoolers are engaged in and provide a glimpse of future dangers that will require vigilance on the part of each homeschooling family. Just as God required Joshua to establish a memorial by removing 12 stones from the Jordan River so that the fathers would tell their children of God's miraculous deliverance, homeschooling parents should tell their children the history of the battles homeschoolers faced. This is the only way we will preserve home education to the next, and future, generations.
Julie HiramineThe Pathway of Purity that Leads to Purpose (EH1)
For: Teens and their Parents (especially for teens!)
Using the 5 senses of seeing, feeling, tasting, hearing, and smelling, Julie Hiramine will not be your science instructor, but edifying you about staying pure. There is a flood of inappropriate imagery and explicit content that besieges us everywhere we turn. Come and receive practical guidance on how to meet the many challenges that surround you in the areas of relationships, media discernment, and developing a deeper relationship with the Lord. God's call on this generation is to step up into His higher standard and seek His face in the midst of all that might want to pull us off course. Join us as we together plot a course through the maze that the world is lost in.
Stephen GuffantiADHD and Kinesthetic Learners: Newest Discoveries (Part 1) (EH2)
Know someone who moves too much or doesn't seem to pay attention? This is the workshop for you. Dr. Guffanti will bring you into the heart and mind of the ADHD child. Learning styles filter the details people see and their interaction with others. You will experience the world as a kinesthetic learner does, discover how IQ and other tests don't effectively test kinesthetic learners, and why they are often misdiagnosed. You will experience both laughter and tears, but most of all, you will develop a deep understanding. Understand your child - and possibly your spouse - better!
Bruce EaglesonYou Can Do It! (Getting Started Homeschooling) (EH3)
Dr. Eagleson draws on his 22 years of homeschooling and fifteen years on the CHAP board to introduce the topic of getting started in homeschooling. Andrew PudewaTeaching Boys & Other Children Who Would Rather Make Forts All Day (Eq Arena)
Children like to do what they can do; they want to do what they think they can do, and they hate to do what they think they cannot do. If you want excited and enthusiastic children who learn well, you must understand these key laws of motivation, and focus on the essential requirement of relevancy. If it matters, children will learn it, and if it doesn't, they won't. This session will enlighten you with specific ways to find and create relevancy for children, even when they have no apparent interest.

Stan JohnWHere's Dad? (EH4)

Bill JackThe FAD of Christianity — Will it pass the test of time? (II Tim. 1:7) (Teen Track) (PA Hall)
What is a FAD? Learn the three characteristics Christians must have if we want Christianity to be a FAD for the next generation. The Wizard's promises become the illusion of a fad, a passing fancy; The Wiseman's promise is the FAD that will bless the next generation.
Carol ToppHow to Start and Manage a Homeschool Organization: Boards, Budgets and By-laws (Leaders' Track) (VIP Room)

Hal and Melanie YoungStrengthening the Seawall (Eq Arena)
In many cases the decision to homeschool our children is a protective move — we want to defend our children from the crashing waves of secularism, materialism, and other human philosophies that would swamp their developing faith. We try to prevent shipwreck by making sure their boat is sound before they launch out to sea. There's a critical part of this, though — is our home, especially our marriage, strong enough to withstand the buffeting we will face even as we protect our children? Hal and Melanie speak candidly about the special challenges and temptations of a homeschooling marriage and offer hope and guidance for strengthening the seawall that secures our children's harbor.
Shelley NoonanManners Boot Camp (Eq Barn)

Could you explain where the water for a world-wide flood would have come from, and perhaps more important - where did it all go?! Many Christians can't. See how moviemakers convey a secular worldview to the public... in the blink of an eye! Keep in mind Colossians 2:8, and keep focused on Bill Jack's media examples and use of technological illusions. Otherwise, you may lose sight of True Reality.
Carol ToppBecoming a 501c3 tax-exempt organization: Is Your Homeschool Group Ready? (Leaders' Track) (VIP Room)
For: Support Group Leaders. Many homeschool organizations are asking, "Should we consider becoming a tax-exempt organization? What are the benefits? What are the costs? Do we need it? Is it worth it?" Becoming a formally recognized not-for-profit organization (known as "501c3" or "tax exempt status" to the IRS) involves a lot of government paperwork. Is it worth the effort? Presenter Carol Topp, a homeschooling mother and CPA, has helped several homeschooling organizations obtain tax-exempt status through her organization HomeschoolCPA. She will discuss the pros and cons of 501c3 status, offer tips, helpful resources and checklists.

In this session we will discuss several basic themes in fairy tales and traditional children's literature (goodness, truth, beauty, hope, honesty, wishes, etc.) as well as key archetypes of literature and their importance to the moral imagination. Jim WeissThe Astounding History of the Holy Temple (EH2)
There have been two holy temples in Jerusalem, each sitting upon the high Temple Mount. King Solomon built the first, the most beautiful edifice on earth in its day. But Solomon gave it more than just beauty. Jim Weiss will show you how a building could demonstrate Solomon's famous wisdom and kindness. The second temple, built a thousand years later, was that to which Jesus came to pray. Built by a murderer, destroyed by a man who did all he could to save it, this temple sat at the crossroads of the Roman, Jewish and early Christian worlds. Hear the strange story of how it came to be, learn its role for Judaism, hear the dramatic story of its fall at the hands of a future Roman emperor, learn about what remains of it, and understand how its destruction changed Christianity, Judaism and Islam forever. Jim Weiss brings this presentation all his storytelling skills and his ability to tell a complex story in a way that is clear and emotionally profound. You will envision kings, prophets, wise men—and a certain boy sitting in a courtyard and astounding the wise teachers with his understanding.

We've all suffered it at one time or another: Frustration about writing assignments. Either on the receiving end, or perhaps now on the giving end, there can be a few distinctly discouraging aspects to teaching and being taught writing. The tough questions include: What to correct and how to give a grade? How much help is too much? Isn't the assignment clear enough? Why don't students find their own errors? Learn and avoid four teaching mistakes that contribute to this frustration: Overcorrecting, Holding Back Help, Unclear Assignments, and Over-Expectation.
Phil DownerHealing Wounds in a Family Between Generations (Eq Barn)

Julie HiramineThrough the Eyes of a Child (EH1)

Julie gives practical age by age tips for parents on how to teach their children discernment while watching TV and movies, playing video games, and while on the internet. These easy-to-implement ideas will help you chart a course for your children's lifelong media standards.

Nada RothgaberLearning Styles - How Does Your Child Learn? (EH4)
How does your child learn best? Is your child in constant movement? Is your child constantly humming and singing? Does your child love to do workbook pages? Does your child hate to do workbook pages? Is your child always taking things apart or building things? Join Nada in a session which might help you to determine your child's learning style. When we go over these styles, you'll see yourself falling into one of these styles and you'll see your child falling into a different learning style - At least that is usually a way that God stretches us! As homeschoolers, we have the blessing of being able to present material in a style that makes it easier for our child to learn. Once you know your child's learning style you'll be able to take that into consideration when buying curriculum: You can think about whether it is appropriate for your child's learning style, not yours. It will make your job much easier as a home- school teacher and it will make learning fun and successful for your child.

Michael SmithHow Do We Measure Success in Homeschooling? (Eq Barn)
Why aren't your Christian neighbors homeschooling? What is the number one reason that parents do not homeschool? Their lack of confidence to believe that they can actually do the job, or, put another way—fear of failure. Many homeschoolers in the midst of homeschooling are wondering how they will be able to determine whether they are successful or not with their children. Mike will explain in very clear and decisive terms how you can know whether or not you have been successful when you get to the end of your homeschool experience where it says "The End." One way to answer the question is whether or not our work homeschooling with our children has been in vain. The Bible gives clear and decisive direction in this area which should be very encouraging to all of us, and hopefully give us encouragement in even the most difficult situations.
